Day in Downtown

On Oct. 31 the Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce will host its 7th Annual Day in Downtown in the downtown historic business district on South Main Street.  Come and enjoy arts and crafts, a business expo, a classic car show, a chili cook-off, Kids’ Kourt, entertainment and food vendors.  The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Call 919.552.4947 for vendor fees and information.  An application will be available online at www.fuquay-varina.com Mid-August, as well as more details and entertainment schedules.  Admission to the public is free.

Bass Lake Photo Club’s Photography Lecture Series presents: “Dick Cicone - One Light Portraits” on Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 7-9 p.m. at the Bass Lake Retreat Center, 900 Bass Lake Road in Holly Springs. FVHS Class of 1999

Holly Springs Crush Boys U11

The HSFC Holly Springs Crush Boys U11 team, is looking for a soccer player to participate in our fall league.  We practice in downtown Holly Springs, and play in the NC Champions League.  We play 8-10 regular season games plus tournaments.

FVAA Baseball 9U Predators Try-Outs

The 9 & under Predator team is looking for baseball players who are interested in playing on a competitive travel team.  The team won 2 tournaments and was runner up 3 times this past spring season posting a 22 & 9 record.  Tryouts will be held at Ballentine Elementary School Baseball fields, 1600 McLaurin Lane Fuquay-Varina, July 25 1-4 p.m., July 28, 6-8 p.m., and Aug. 4, 6-8 p.m.  Age requirement for 9U is a player must not turn 10 before May 1, 2010.  First Annual Fantasy Gamers Conclave

On Saturday, Aug. 1, the Knightly Order of the Fiat Lux will host the First Annual Fantasy Gamers Conclave – an exposé of fantasy themed role-playing games – at Hopewell Academy in Cary. Games will include Dungeons and Drag-ons, Munchkin, Warhammer, and more. Prizes have been provided by Steve Jackson Games, Wizards of the Coast, and the Men In Black! Entrance fee is $10, and proceeds will go to charity. The Knighly Order of the Fiat Lux is a local non-profit organization dedicated to serving the special-needs children community through interactive education, living history demonstration, fundraising, and volunteer work. Since our inception in 2005 we have been able to serve such worthy causes as TEACCH classrooms, the Autism Society of North Carolina, Special Needs Scouting, the Special Olympics, At-Risk Youth Outreach Programs, and Equestrian Occupational Therapy for Children with Disabilities.

YLS Fall Lacrosse League

Baseball Tournament

Bible Buddies

New Life Wesleyan Church is offering Bible Buddies, a special needs class, for ages K-5th. Held every Sunday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The class focuses on music, sensory activities, art, snacks, and one on one Bible teaching. Each child is prayed for every Sunday. All disabilities are welcome. Multiple Sclerosis Awareness

Multiple Sclerosis (or MS) is a chronic, sometimes disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system (brain, optic nerves, and spinal cord). Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has a 50 state network of chapters. The North Carolina Eastern Chapter meets Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at the Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church on Woodrow Street.
