The North Carolina Community Foundation is currently accepting grant requests for projects funded from its statewide Women’s Fund, according to Jennifer Tolle Whiteside , president and CEO. Funds are available for nonprofit organizations that sponsor programming that supports women and/or children, with particular emphasis on women’s health and leadership issues. Programs must serve areas within the NCCF’s 65-county service area. (Visit nccommunityfoundation.org for a map of the counties served by the NCCF.)

Applications and specific information about submissions are available at nccommunityfoundation.org; or by writing to The Women’s Fund, North Carolina Community Foundation, 4601 Six Forks Road, Suite 524 , Raleigh , NC 27609 . The deadline for submitting applications is September 3.

The statewide Women’s Fund awarded grants in 2008 to Albemarle Hopeline; Girls on the Run of the Triangle; Women’s Law.org; and Raleigh Fine Arts Society. Its grants committee is comprised of representatives of the NCCF’s local women’s giving circles and other female community leaders from across North Carolina . The NCCF supports five regionally based giving programs across the state, including the Women’s Network – Connecting for Change ( Wake County ); the Bertie-Hertford Women’s Fund; Women Givers of Northeast North Carolina ( Camden , Gates, Pasquotank and Perquimans counties); Women Givers of Nash-Rocky Mount; and Onslow Women’s Health Fund. Several new women’s giving circles are in development.

The NCCF is the single statewide community foundation serving North Carolina and was created 21 years ago to build capacity through philanthropy. The NCCF sustains nearly 1,000 endowment funds established to provide long-term support of a broad range of community needs, nonprofit organizations and scholarships. The NCCF partners with 59 affiliate foundations to provide local resource allocation and community assistance in 65 counties across the state, with an emphasis on rural and underserved areas.
