The weather may have been better suited for ducks, but canines and their faithful owners made their way out to Dog Days at Womble Park in spite of the uncooperative weather on Saturday. Along with a plethora of pooch paraphernalia from several vendors, area rescue organizations attended the event and brought along a variety of dogs that need loving families. From Great Danes, on down to a tiny Peke, families looking for a four legged companion were in luck. The Holly Springs Police Department’s animal control staff was on hand with rabies shots and micro chip ID placement.

Carolina Dock Dogs also made a big splash during this year’s event by hosting their first dock dog diving competition in Holly Springs. Preliminary rounds for distance, vertical jump, and speed retrieval were held on Saturday, with the final rounds conducted on Sunday with some perfect “swimming weather” as the sun made an appearance at noon. Along with the competitors, numerous spectators came out to check out the sport and see if their dog was willing to take the plunge into the regulation pool the organization set up next to pond.

Carolina Dock Dog, Vice President, Chet VanFossen said, “I thought the event was fantastic because we exposed a whole new group of people to dock dog diving. We had 25-30 newbies come out and give it a try. That was a lot of fun and really exciting. All the folks that came from out of town just raved about the venue and hope to come back to Dog Days in the Park next year.”
