Kevin Traynor was a dedicated member of the Fuquay-Varina community, who passed away after a five year battle with prostate cancer. That’s why local business owners Bob Clifford and Tim Parks decided to host a memorial golf tournament with all proceeds to be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Survived by his wife Marion, two children, four grandchildren and seven siblings, Kevin Traynor was very involved in the community. An active member of the American Legion, a member of the VFW, and an avid sports fan, Traynor worked at the Crooked Creek Golf Club and played pool regularly at the Varina Sports Bar. Prior to retiring and relocating to North Carolina in 1991, his careers included serving in the American Navy and working at the Long Island Railroad.

The tournament will take place on November 10, 2009 at the gorgeous Crooked Creek Golf Club. All players are welcome and business sponsorships are available. Tournament play is $90. and is all-inclusive, with every player enjoying: round of golf, cart, lunch, goody bag, participation in contests, and complimentary beer, water and soda. Many fantastic prizes including trips, cash and more are already lined up, with more being added daily.

“The purpose of the tournament is to honor the memory of Kevin, while raising funds for a good cause and increasing awareness about prostate cancer,” says Bob Clifford, owner of the Varina Sports Bar, the premier sponsor of the event. He hopes the community will come out and enjoy a fun day of golf for a good cause.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation estimates that for every one dollar it receives in donations, they are able to multiply it to the equivalent of thirty dollars that goes toward research and development. They accomplish this by utilizing specialized staff who investigate and secure government and private grants. All proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation in memory of Kevin Traynor.
