Amatuer Radio Society Its that time of year again. Coming to Benson, N.C. on Sunday Nov. 15, is the famous JARS, Johnson Amateur Radio Society, Hamfest in this part of the State of North Carolina. It is decreed by the ARRL that there shall be no others on this date. The location is in the American Legion complex on Highway 301 N in Benson. Doors open at 8 a.m. Pre-registration is still only $5 - $6 at the door. Talk-in will be on 147.27 + 600 repeater. No tone. Inside tables are available at $10 or you can sell\buy right from your tailgate for only $6. There will be the famous JARS burgers, hot dogs, soda, etc. The grand prize will be a Yaesu FT 857D. Second prize is a 2 meter FM Mobil. VE exams will take place at 10 a.m.

Outdoor Gospel Singing Come join us on Saturday, Nov. 7 for a fun filled day at The True Light Holiness Church between 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. There will be an outdoor gospel singing. There will be a yard and bake sale. Hotdogs and boneless pork chop sandwiches will also be sold - All proceeds will be going for our churches building fund. Community Thanksgiving Service Join area churches of many traditions and denominations in a service of prayer, celebration and thanksgiving on Wednesday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church in Fuquay-Varina. This long-standing community service will involve a number of churches and a large choir from many church traditions in an ecumenical gathering of fellowship, praise and music. The Rev. Dr. Nathaniel J. Wood, of New Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina, is the presiding pastor of this year’s service. The offering will go in its entirety to Southern Wake Faith Community in Action (SWFCA). This 501©3 non-profit organization helps needy families in Fuquay-Varina and Willow Spring with emergency financial assistance and resource information. SWFCA is interdenominational and nonpartisan and serves as an outreach arm of churches in the community. Incorporated in 2006 SWFCA continues the work of Fuquay Family Aid helped the community since the 1960s. Sons of American Legion Post 116’s Thanksgiving Can Food Drive The Sons of American Legion Post 116 in Fuquay-Varina will again be sponsoring the collection of can and dried food goods for the local Fuquay-Varina Food Pantry. The intent of the Pantry is to distribute emergency supplies to those in need in and around the Fuquay-Varina area. The collection runs through Friday, Nov. 20. Once again the Recreation Room at Post 116 at 6400 Johnson Pond Rd. in Fuquay-Varina will be used as the drop off area. Afternoon Tea The Fuquay-Varina Woman’s Club is sponsoring an Afternoon Tea Fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. at the Woman’s Club building on Ennis Street. The fundraiser will be raising money for Interact and Pass It On, an organization that is available to help women that are victims of domestic abuse. Pass It On is a local thrift store, located behind Cooleys, that raises money for Interact. Interact has a facility in Raleigh where women of domestic abuse may stay. By helping Interact, we are also helping the women in our community that need this facility to break free from an abusive situation. Bible Buddies New Life Wesleyan Church is offering Bible Buddies, a special needs class, for ages K-5th. Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Multiple Sclerosis (or MS) is a chronic, sometimes disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system (brain, optic nerves, and spinal cord). Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has a 50 state network of chapters. The North Carolina Eastern Chapter meets Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at the Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church on Woodrow Street.

Volunteers needed Interact’s Pass It On thrift store, 309 South Main St., Fuquay-Varina, is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to work as sorters and cashiers. Pass It On sells high quality, gently used women’s and children’s clothing at low prices. Proceeds from sales at Pass It On support counseling services for victims of domestic violence and rape/sexual assault at Interact’s Southern Wake Outreach Center.
