In the first quarter, JJ Graves drove in the ball with a one yard run followed by a Nick Hohns extra point to start the game. Athens Drive High School scored soon after, but missed the extra point. Later in the first, a 20 yard punt return by Corron Boston set up good field position for the Hawks. A 20 yard TD pass from Mike Roach to Marc Jones and a Hohns extra point put the Hawks on the board again, giving the Hawks the lead at the end of the first quarter, 14-6.
It was the second quarter when the Hawks seemed to take their heads out of the game and allowed Athens Drive to control all the scoring with three touchdowns giving Athens the 25-14 lead at halftime. Holly Springs rallied back in the third quarter with a Graves touchdown run as well as a Hohns 35 yard field goal.
In the fourth quarter, Athens Drive started the scoring, but Holly Springs matched it with a 40 yard touchdown run by Graves. The Hawks set the table for what could have been a tremendous comeback. After stopping the Jaguars at the one yard line, the Hawks drove 99 yards in the final two minutes. The big play came when Mike Roach pitched to RB Corron Boston who then threw to Marc Jones for a 60 yard gain. Graves scored his fourth touchdown with time expiring to narrow the Jaguars lead to two points; however, the Jaguars came through by fending off the two point conversion attempt to win the game 39-37.
