Holly Springs Community Calendar

Deadlines Monday by 5 p.m. (10 days prior to publication date) is the deadline for submission of typed, faxed and handwritten items to be submitted for the following week's paper, and they can be faxed to 552-7564. The deadline for e-mailed submissions is Thursday by 12 p.m. and they can be e-mailed to ncatrine@raleighsouthonline. com.

Holly Springs HS Winter Band Concert The Holly Springs High School Band program will be presenting their Winter Concert on Monday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. in the schools auditorium. The concert will feature the Freshman Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Symphonic Band. A special appearance by Santa Claus will highlight the program. The concert is free, however, it is asked that you bring 2-3 cans of food for the local food bank. In addition, for $6 you may take home a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Holly Springs Parade The annual Happy Holly Days Parade will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12. The route begins at the intersection of Main Street and Holly Springs Road and continues along Main Street, turning right onto Ballentine Street before ending at Avent Ferry Road. The parade is being presented by the Kiwanis Club of Holly Springs with sponsorship by the Town of Holly Springs.

Nativity Celebration The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will host the 6th annual Apex Christmas Nativity Celebration on Dec. 10-12. The three-day event features more than 300 nativity displays from around the world, art work, a live nativity, children’s activity room, and musical performances by local artists. The event is held at 590 Bryan Drive in Apex adjacent to the Mormon temple. Rawls Baptist Chruch Choir The Rawls Baptist Church choir will present “Glorious Impossible” on Saturday, Dec.r 12, at 7 p.m., and on Sunday, December 13, at 10:45 a.m. The community is invited to attend either or both of these performances as we celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Christmas Angel Beauty Pageant Christmas Angel Beauty Pageant will be held Sunday, Dec. 20 at Blue Ridge Ramada in Raleigh. This is open to girls and boys of all ages. Half marathon training program OPT, Outstanding Personal Training will be conducting a half marathon training program beginning Jan. 3, 2010. Bible Buddies New Life Wesleyan Church is offering Bible Buddies, a special needs class, for ages K-5th. Held every Sunday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The class focuses on music, sensory activities, art, snacks, and one on one Bible teaching. Each child is prayed for every Sunday. All disabilities are welcome. Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Multiple Sclerosis (or MS) is a chronic, sometimes disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system (brain, optic nerves, and spinal cord). Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has a 50 state network of chapters. The North Carolina Eastern Chapter meets Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at the Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church on Woodrow Street.

Volunteers needed Interact’s Pass It On thrift store, 309 South Main St., Fuquay-Varina, is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to work as sorters and cashiers. Pass It On sells high quality, gently used women’s and children’s clothing at low prices. Proceeds from sales at Pass It On support counseling services for victims of domestic violence and rape/sexual assault at Interact’s Southern Wake Outreach Center.
