Hilltop Animal Hospital has a new owner and she plans to keep the service personal to best serve pets and their families.

Dr. Mary Ann McBride is no newcomer to veterinary science. She graduated from NC State University in 1992 and said she thoroughly enjoys her work with animals.

A Raleigh native, she chose to move to the Fuquay area because she and her husband and two children wanted to be in a small town with a slower pace.

“There’s more time to spend with pets and their owners,” she said.

Since she bought the hospital from Dr. Gerald Dienhart at the end of October, she said, “we’ve had a wonderful reception from the community.”

She has already become part of the community by partnering with the Fuquay-Varina Fire Department to aid animals injured in fires and other emergencies. Her experience in working with animals during disasters includes spending three weeks with search and rescue dogs at the World Trade Center following the 9/11 disaaster in 2001.

She also helped out following Hurricane Floyd in 1999. In Fuquay, she will provide care to animals following fires or other emergencies and will be available to take care of the pets at the scene or at Hilltop Animal Hospital. McBride said they welcome “anything with fur” at the Hilltop Hospital.

“We work with pocket pets like hamster, gerbils, rabbits - not just cats and dogs,” she said.

The hospital provides a full service including well pet checkups, spay and neuter and other surgeries. They also provide dental cleanings. McBride has two German Shepherds of her own and “a multitude of cats” that visitors can see in portraits painted by local artist Rocky Alexander.

The portraits of of pets owned by staff members hang on the waiting room walls for all to enjoy. (See page 1A for more information on Rocky Alexander). Hilltop Animal Hospital is located at 3425 N. Main St., Fuquay-Varina, two miles south of Wake Tech. The hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
