Deadlines Monday by 5 p.m. (10 days prior to publication date) is the deadline for submission of typed, faxed and handwritten items to be submitted for the following week's paper, and they can be faxed to 552-7564. Gospel Concert Friday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m., Lighthouse Gospel Music Association will host a southern gospel concert at Lighthouse Convention Center, 326 Tryon Road, Raleigh, featuring The Shireys from Nashville TN.

Hearts for Hemophilia Hemophilia of North Carolina is hosting its annual “Hearts for Hemophilia” Casino Night on Saturday, Jan. 23 at the Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh. Tickets and sponsorships are available online at www.hemophilia-nc.org. All proceeds benefit Hemophilia of North Carolina, a non-profit 501c3 organization dedicated to assisting people with bleeding disorders.

Annual F-V Arts Festival The annual Fuquay-Varina Arts Festival will be presented by the Fuquay-Varina Woman’s Club and Junior Woman’s Club on Saturday, Jan. 23 and Sunday, Jan. 24. The festival will take place in the Windsor Point Auditorium, 1221 Broad Street, from 1 - 4 p.m. each day. Admission is free Arts and crafts from all of our area schools (grades K-12), community artists, Windsor Point residents and clubwomen will be featured. Additional categories include music, sewing and photography and there is also a literary division covering short stories and poetry.Artists and crafters are welcomed and encouraged to bring their entries to Windsor Point between 3 and 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22. These entries can be picked up at the end of the festival on Sunday, Jan. 24, between 4 and 5 p.m.

MLK Jr Holiday Step Show In commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Holly Springs High School will hold the “MLK Jr Holiday Step Show” on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at 5:00 pm at the Holly Springs High School Auditorium located at 5329 Cass Holt Rd, Holly Springs. This even will feature Elementary, Middle School, and High School Step Teams from Holly Springs, Raleigh, Apex, Durham, Fuquay, and Henderson. Students & Youth from all over the state will showcase their talents at this event. Doors open at 4:30 pm. This event is for the youth, family, and entire community. Amateur Radio Society The Johnston Amateur Radio Society (JARS) January meeting will be on Thursday, Jan. 21 at Panther Branch Community Center, 10900 Ten Ten Road in Garner. Social hour will begin at 6 p.m. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. A most interesting item will be the UHF linked radio system which extends from the Triangle out East toward Greenville and down South to Wilmington and on down to Myrtle Beach SC. Anyone with an amateur technician or higher class radio license may use this system. Our speaker for the evening will be Ron Casey K4JDR, the architect and man responsible for the linked system. His accomplishments include tower raisings, keeping repeater hardware up to date, and repeater maintenance.

Newcomers & Friends Club The Holly Springs Newcomers & Friends Club is a non profit, tax exempt, social organization. Our purpose is to make friends, learn about our community and find ways to give back to our community through outreach and volunteer projects. Everyone is welcome regardless of how long you have lived in the area. Eva Perry Library Eva Perry Regional Library presents a special evening of “Local Authors” on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 7 pm. Published area authors Kelly Gay, Bryan Gilmer, Phyllis Harrison, and Lila Hopkins will each speak about writing and their books with plenty of time for questions. Arts Festival The GFWC of Holly Springs is sponsoring an Arts Festival for Holly Springs students K-12, on Jan. 23. The artwork will be on display for public for viewing at the Cultural Center from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Jan. 23.

Jordan Lake Sudbury School Jordan Lake Sudbury School (JLSS) is a participatory democracy for students from kindergarten through high school. Operating in Cary but planning a move to the 64 corridor in the near future, this private school provides a vibrant community of mixed-age learners who initiate and pursue their own course of study in a way most appropriate for them. New School Montessori Center The New School Montessori Center, located at 5617 Sunset Lake Road in Holly Springs, will be hosting an Open House on Jan. 17 from 2-4 p.m. Staff will be available to provide tours and answer questions about the Montessori method. South Wake Storm The South Wake Storm 14uFastpitch softball team is looking for several experienced players (we have pitcher, and infielder openings) for the upcoming spring 2010 season. We play on an average of 2 tournaments a month (less than 2 hour drive). We are a second year team playing out of the Fuquay-Varina area. We will be staying at 14u next season due to only a few girls moving up. Players and their families should fit in well with the team. Bible Buddies New Life Wesleyan Church is offering Bible Buddies, a special needs class, for ages K-5th. Held every Sunday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The class focuses on music, sensory activities, art, snacks, and one on one Bible teaching. Each child is prayed for every Sunday. All disabilities are welcome. Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Multiple Sclerosis (or MS) is a chronic, sometimes disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system (brain, optic nerves, and spinal cord). Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has a 50 state network of chapters. The North Carolina Eastern Chapter meets Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at the Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church on Woodrow Street.

Pass It On sells high quality, gently used women’s and children’s clothing at low prices. Proceeds from sales at Pass It On support counseling services for victims of domestic violence and rape/sexual assault at Interact’s Southern Wake Outreach Center.
