5K Training Group Want to run your first 5K or how about your best 5K? Join Fuquay’s only RRCA certified running coach and train for Fuquay’s own Run the Quay 5K. The American Legion Post 116 Easter Egg Hunt The American Legion Post 116 in Fuquay-Varina will be having their annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday March 27, 2010 at 11:00A.M. open to the public for kids ages 1 through 12. There will be live chicks and a bunny for all to see. The Easter Bunny will be giving out candy and eager to have your picture taken with him. Lions Golf Tournament The Fuquay-Varina Lions Club will sponsor its 14th annual golf tournament at Bentwinds Country Club on April 21 at 12 noon. Major proceeds from this superball tournament will go to covering the expenses of bringing the 21st Century Vision Van to Fuquay-Varina this year. This van will provide the opportunity for many local families to get vision health screenings at little to no cost. As always, 100 percent of the proceeds from the tournament go to help local and state charities. The Lions are currently contacting local businesses and individuals for their support. Last year we had over 125 individuals and merchants supporting our effort. Applications for teams and sponsorship can be had from any Lions Club member or calling Brian Kostek, 647-9859 or Larry Bennett, 552-4240. Team sponsorships are $375 which includes golf, lunch, dinner, prizes and mulligans. Other support can be provided through hole sponsorship and brochure advertisements.

Author Series Kicks Off Local author Oie Osterkamp will kick off InterAct’s 2010 Authors Series on Thursday, March 25, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at InterAct’s Pass It On thrift store, 309 South Main Street, Fuquay-Varina. Oie will share inspirational insights about life and relationships from his first book, Being a Sharefish in a Selfish World. Summer Day Camp 2010 All rising 1st – 5th graders are invited to attend Day Camp at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church and Camp Agape in Fuquay Varina June 21-25 or July 12-16 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Counselors provide a safe place to talk about being young in today’s world and share how Jesus Christ wants us to live. Kids will learn more about God’s love and how it leads us to serve others along with games, singing and other regular camp activities. This year’s theme is “Keeping the Earth” where we’ll be invited to go forth more hopeful and inspired to look for ways to “green” our homes and our congregations and more faithfully care for creation. 14uFastpitch softball The South Wake Storm 14uFastpitch softball team is looking for several experienced players (we have pitcher, and infielder openings) for the upcoming spring 2010 season. We play on an average of 2 tournaments a month (less than 2 hr drive). We are a second year team playing out of the Fuquay Varina area. We will be staying at 14u next season due to only a few girls moving up. South Wake Storm will be having open tryouts for their 14u team soon. Pine Straw Sales to support Camp Agape Purchase a 2.3 cubic foot bale of long leaf, clean Pine Straw and help support Camp Agape, a Christian summer camp for children south of Fuquay-Varina. On Saturday, March 13 and Saturday, March 20 pine straw will be on sale at $5 a bale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 2100 Buffaloe Rd, Garner. Proceeds will be donated to the Camp to support scholarships for local children as well as for maintenance and improvement of the facilities. There will be free delivery in the Garner area on orders of 15 or more bales. Customers purchasing fewer than 15 bales may pick up on site or have it delivered for an additional $5 fee. Equestrian Clinic Local riding instructor Allison Trill will be leading an Equestrian Advice clinic on March 13. Trill encourages any riders looking for riding help and answers to come out - people who want to understand the “whys” of riding and bond with and learn how to communicate with their horse. Equestrian Advice is focused on providing high-quality training, advice, and customer satisfaction. Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Multiple Sclerosis (or MS) is a chronic, sometimes disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system (brain, optic nerves, and spinal cord). Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has a 50 state network of chapters. The North Carolina Eastern Chapter meets Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at the Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church on Woodrow Street.

Pass It On sells high quality, gently used women’s and children’s clothing at low prices. Proceeds from sales at Pass It On support counseling services for victims of domestic violence and rape/sexual assault at Interact’s Southern Wake Outreach Center.
