The Town’s proclamation kicks off the event’s activities, although Kiwanians are already working hard. This year along with “Terrific Kids” awards there will also be an added “Terrific Teacher” and “Terrific Teen” award. The local schools identify the recipients of the awards. Also, the popular “Friends of Youth” Raffle is shaping up to be another big draw to the event.
“This is one of my favorite parts of the event,” says Linda Hunt Williams, event coordinator and Terrific Kids ceremony founder. “Our kids need all the encouragement they can get as they grow into our future leaders as do their teachers who teach and guide them. It is only natural that they join with our Town leaders to kick off KA Day activities.”
The Kiwanis Club in 2002, when Williams was President, founded the annual Terrific Kids ceremony as the reason for the end-of-school year KA Day event. With the support of Holly Springs Parks and Recreation Department, Holly Springs Public Safety department, the business community, the schools’ administration, parents, and the kids, it has grown into a traditional, well attended kids’ recognition event every year.
Kiwanians are excited about this year’s event and the return of vendors and participants including NY Pizza, F&M Entertainment, Pelicans SnoBalls, U. S. Marine Corps Color Guard, Holly Springs School of Dance, Primrose School at West Lake, Holly Springs School for Early Education, Khara Orthodontics, and many more.
“Kid’s Appreciation Day celebrates the academic, physical and spiritual growth that our local children have achieved during the past school year,” says Jimmy Cobb, who is a Kiwanian and past President.
“Let’s embrace a day that celebrates our greatest asset, our children in Holly Springs.”
“It doesn’t take much to imagine how beneficial this event is to our community, says Mayor Dick Sears who is Chairman of the Kiwanian Board of Directors. “As the kids of Holly Springs represent our future, The Kiwanis Club is there, especially on Kids Appreciation Day, to support kids.”
All children attending the event will get one free SnoBall, a piece of NY Pizza, a “Friend of Youth” raffle ticket, and a lot of entertainment from vendors, such as F&M Entertainment’s blow up rides. There will be a cost for additional refreshment and raffle tickets.
The sponsorship and event funds will be used to support the event and Kiwanis youth leadership initiatives in Holly Springs, such as scholarships for disadvantaged kids, dictionaries for elementary school kids, and the Holly Springs and Middle Creek high schools’ key clubs. The Kiwanis high school Key Club members also volunteer their time for community events as do other youth groups, such as the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Board.
All individuals, organizations, or businesses interested in taking part in this end-of-school year community celebration for kids are invited to sign up to be a vendor or become a sponsor of the event.
There is no vendor fee, but you must register and there are some restrictions. Sponsor funds are welcome and encouraged.
