BBQ fundraiser Sunrise United Methodist Church is having a BBQ fundraiser on Friday, May 7, to benefit our Home Improvement Ministry. 2010 Ride for Life - May 15 A community bike ride will hosted by the Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church Spiritual Spinners will take place on Saturday, May 15. Please join us for a day of cycling along the beautiful country roads of Wake, Harnett, and Chatham counties. The ride offers 3 distinct rides of 19 miles, 31 miles, and 62 miles. Net proceeds from this year’s ride will benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Eastern North Carolina, the United Cerebral Palsy Society, the American Diabetes Association, and the Jimmy ‘V‘ Foundation. In addition, the ride will benefit the missions of the Fuquay-Varina United Methodist church to help those in rural America and countries like Costa Rica and Bolivia. Hawks annual physical night All HSHS Golden Hawk athletes (including rising 9th graders) are invited to attend the annual physical night to benefit the HSHS Sports Medicine Program on Wednesday, May 26 beginning at 6:30 p.m. All student athletes are required to have a valid physical on file in order to participate in any sports program as well as any off-season training. Physicals are valid for one full year (365 days). The cost is $20 with physicals provided Carolina Family Practice and Sports Medicine. All participants need to bring their completed WCPSS High School Athletic Participation Form and payment of $20 (cash or check payable to the Golden Hawks Club) with them that night or they will not receive their physical. The form is available to download at www.wcpss.net under Forms or from the HSHS Sports Medicine Department. Fall athletes should report at 6:30 p.m., Winter athletes at 7 p.m. and Spring athletes at 7:30 p.m. Rising 9th graders should report at 7:45 p.m.
Plant Swap Harnett County Master Gardener Volunteers are holding a Plant Swap on Saturday, May 8, at the Harnett County Agriculture Building parking lot, 126 Alexander Drive, Lillington. Plant swapping will be from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The Plant Swap is great way to add some different varieties of plants to your landscape. Bring healthy, non-invasive, labeled, potted perennials and annuals from your yard to swap for an equal number of plants provided by other plant enthusiasts. For only $5, you can swap as many plants as you want. The more plants you bring, the more you receive for your yard or garden. He broke a vertebra in his neck and is currently in a physical rehabilitation facility in Atlanta, Ga., that specializes in spinal cord injuries. Yoga in the Park Yoga in the Park is back for its third year at the Mineral Springs Park on South Main Street. The weekly free outdoor yoga classes will be every Sunday through Sunday, Sept. 26.
