Fundraising with TNT Fireworks When organizations think about raising funds for their projects, most turn to the ordinary like raffles or candy sales. This year, however, one local group will be raising funds in a more unique fashion. The Pentecostals of Fuquay will operate a fireworks tent at WalMart in Fuquay-Varina, as a fundraiser for their organization from June 28 through July 4. We’ll have fireworks that are legal in the State of North Carolina.

Holly Springs Food Cupboard Holly Springs Food Cupboard has incorporated as a NC non-profit and has signed an umbrella agreement with Apex’s Western Wake Crisis Ministry to provide food and resources for those in need in Holly Springs. It is the hope of the volunteers organizing this service that all of Holly Springs will join in the effort to take care of our own. A kick-off food drive is planned for Saturday, July 10, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Holly Springs. You may bring non-perishable food to the HS Food Cupboard booth that morning and volunteers will collect, organize and distribute them in September along with supplemental resources from Western Wake Crisis Ministry. Interested organizations are encouraged to have their own collection and either deliver the items on July 10th to the HS Food Cupboard booth or arrange for them to be picked up from your organization’s site. Donations in the form of checks made out to Western Wake Crisis Ministry with Holly Springs Food Cupboard on the memo line may be sent to Holly Springs Food Cupboard, PO Box 268, Holly Springs, NC, 27540. Holly Springs Garden Club The Holly Springs Garden Club meets the second Wednesday evening of every month at 7 p.m. at Bass Lake. Our meetings are both fun and educational providing monthly presenters such as Master Gardeners, local nurseries, JC Raulston Arboretum and many others. Shadow Ridge Baptist Church Shadow Ridge Baptist Church will host “SeaQuest: Diving for God’s Treasure”. The dates for this Vacation Bible School are July 26-30 from 6:00-8:30 pm. American Legion Post 116 Community 4th Of July Celebration Please join us for an old fashioned 4th of July celebration at our beautiful American Legion Post facilities at 6400 Johnson Pond Road in Fuquay-Varina, on Sunday, July the 4. There were be plenty of free rides and games for the kids, local bands will be playing all day, food and beverages will be available, and even some fun games for the adults like horseshoes, corn-hole, putting contest and others. The festivities start at 2 p.m. through 8 p.m. Our mission at the American Legion is to support our active and retired military personnel and all of the proceeds will go towards that support. If you can, please bring an item to our donation drop-off booth to be shipped to our troops overseas.

Red, White and Blue Shrimparoo Looking for something to do Independence Day weekend? Abiding Presence Lutheran Church is hosting its third annual Red, White and Blue Shrimparoo on July 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. Enjoy a Low Country Boil featuring shrimp, potatoes, corn on the cob, and sausage. WIC Program The WIC Program provides supplemental nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health care and community resources. Those eligible must *be a pregnant or postpartum woman, infant, or child under age 5, *live in NC, and *have a gross annual income under 185% of the Federal poverty guidelines. Mission trip in home town TLC: The Missions’ Experience provides Piney Grove Baptist Church’s congregational members an opportunity to participate in a multi-day missions’ “trip” in their own home town. On Friday and Saturday, July 9 -10, the church will divide into teams to repair and/or renovate scheduled homes within the Fuquay-Varina and Holly Springs’ communities. Each evening they will gather for a meal followed by a time of worship and sharing. On Sunday night, July 11, the church and the nine families who are assisted during the weekend will join for an evening of celebration and fellowship.

Class of 1975 The Fuquay-Varina High School Class of 1975 plans to hold its 35-year reunion on Saturday, Oct. 2, at Bentwinds Golf and Country Club and is looking for classmates. A reunion committee has created a website (www.classcreator.com) where people may register and read their classmates’ profiles. The committee will primarily use the website and e-mail to provide details concerning the reunion. Yoga in the Park Yoga in the Park is back for its third year at the Mineral Springs Park on South Main St., Fuquay. The weekly free outdoor yoga classes will begin Sunday, May 2, 8-9 a.m. and run every Sunday through Sunday, Sept. 26. This free class is taught by volunteer yoga teachers from the surrounding area. You do not need to make a reservation to attend. Simply show up a bit before 8 a.m. when the class starts. Newcomers & Friends Club The Holly Springs Newcomers & Friends Club is a non profit, tax exempt, social organization. Senior Bingo Senior Bingo is now being played on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Fuquay Varina Community Center, 820 South Main Street, at 1 p.m. Cards are $1 per card and is good for all of the games on that day. Meals on Wheels needs volunteers Meals on Wheels is currently seeking volunteers to deliver meals to the elderly and homebound in the Fuquay-Varina/Holly Springs area. Meal delivery is done Monday through Friday from 10 am to 12 noon and takes about an hour. You may volunteer once a week or once a month. We are also in need of volunteers to lead activities or spend social time with our seniors. Any time you give will mean so much to those in need. Meals on Wheels available Meals on Wheels is looking for people 60 years old and up to join us for a hot meal, fellowship and activities. Bible Buddies New Life Wesleyan Church is offering Bible Buddies, a special needs class, for ages K-5th. Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Multiple Sclerosis (or MS) is a chronic, sometimes disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system (brain, optic nerves, and spinal cord). Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has a 50 state network of chapters. The North Carolina Eastern Chapter meets Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at the Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church on Woodrow Street.

Volunteers needed Interact’s Pass It On thrift store, 309 South Main St., Fuquay-Varina, is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to work as sorters and cashiers. Pass It On sells high quality, gently used women’s and children’s clothing at low prices. Proceeds from sales at Pass It On support counseling services for victims of domestic violence and rape/sexual assault at Interact’s Southern Wake Outreach Center. Moms in Touch Holly Springs High School Moms In Touch would like to invite all interested moms to join us each Thursday morning at 9:45 a.m. at the Sunrise Methodist Church in Holly Springs. It is located at 5420 Sunset Lake Road. We will meet every Thursday morning that school is in session to pray for one hour for your child and the school.

Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group The Fuquay-Varina Alzheimer’s Caregivers’ Support Group meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m., at the Fuquay-Varina Baptist Church, located at 301 N. Woodrow Street (corner of Church and Woodrow). This is an informal, open discussion meeting and everyone is invited to attend. Holly Springs Civitan Civitans are everyday citizens, just like you and me, who come together in communities throughout the world to make life better for their neighbors.
